5 Reasons Why I Love a Good Nature Walk

28 March 2019

Hey there! I hope all is well with you all. I’ve been a tad MIA the last few weeks here on the blog. But all is well. I’ve just hit a stream of go go go moments lately with family that left little wiggle room for blog posts. But new blog content is coming soon. As well as a few exciting trips up my sleeve. Which tend to fuel me with new inspirations all on their own. In fact by the time this post goes live I will be well on my way to the first of those trips. Palm Springs here I come!

Ok so if we connect on Instagram/Stories then you know spring has sprung here in Houston, big time! So lately every chance I can get has been spent outdoors. It’s that time of year when my daily walks provide an extra dose of therapeutic benefits. And with nature blossoming, singing, and all sorts of buzzing a leisure nature walk to soak it all in is even better!

Since the Houston weather has provided me with many lovely opportunities lately to explore in nature I thought I would share:

5 Reasons Why I Love a Good Nature Walk:

family activities, nature walks, exploring ideas with the family. where to explore in Texas, family time

1. An Opportunity to Unplug

I think it’s safe to say we all need a little unplug moment from time to time. And detaching from our devices is definitely key to fully enjoy the scenes without any screens blocking our view. Of course sometimes I can’t help myself and snap a photo or two or three with my phone camera. But over all I make a strong effort to appreciate the break from it all.

2. It Clears the Mind

I know I have said this before, but going on a walk somehow magically clears my head from the stresses of life almost instantly. A sense of calmness sets in with a refreshed mind frame that allows me to tackle the rest of the day head on.

3. Consider Previous Journeys that Shared the Same Roaming Path

So this reason is a new one for me. But I really love the concept behind it. It was actually inspired from a recent tour and nature walk I took with my family at the Waco National Mammoth Monument. Our tour guide pointed out that the same grounds we were walking on were also roamed by mammoths thousands and thousands of years ago. They were breathing the same Texas air, drinking from the same water streams, and hearing and seeing similar birds, insects, etc. For whatever reason that really spoke to me. People have literally been treading these exact same grounds for ages. Now I can’t help but think about who or what may have roamed the same path years past and what their journey was like while on it. What was their story?

4. Beauty is Everywhere

Sometimes it’s hard to ignore all the ugly in this world. Whether it’s the news or unfortunate circumstances in our own lives our minds can get clouded with mess. Submerging myself in nature hightens my senses to absorb nothing but all the beauty God has created for us. There truly is beauty everywhere if we take the time to see it.

5. My Talks with God

I have random talks with God throughout the day. However my talks with God while roaming in nature holds a special place in my heart. It’s when we chat like friends with no other distractions. It’s when He guides my heart and mind through challenges. It’s when we just have a great ole’ time together being us. It truly is the best!

This song by Jaci Velazquez is dedicated to my Eternal walking buddy.

“From the moment You opened my eyes
I have seen the world in a different light
From the dawn to the setting sun
I am overwhelmed
By all that You have done
Adore, adore, adore
Jesus I adore you,
Yes I adore,
Adore, adore, adore
Jesus, I adore You
And I lay my life before You, O Lord
There’s a union of two becoming one
Deep inside my heart
I know that I belong
You have given everything to me
The least that I can do
Is give it back to you
And all I am and ever will be
Is for You, Lord
And everything within me cries
Adore,…”
