Why It’s Not Always Going to be Smiley Here

12 November 2018

casual style, jeans and cardigan outfits, how to be authentice as a blogger, authentic bloggers, bloggers who are real, white mules, basket bags

A few months back I received feedback from a few readers in regards to my lack of smiles in blog photos. I’m not going to lie. The comments stung a little and quite frankly my emotions about it all quickly grew to frustration.ย {I even drafted a blog post about it within days} Thankfully I tend to chew on emotions a bit before saying anything. In most cases if I still feel I have some thing to say after I’ve pondered on it, I will. So here it goes. “It’s just not always going to be smiley here on Textures of Grace.”

Now I know the comments were coming from a loving and perhaps even concerned place. It’s not the first time I have been attacked for my lack there of in the smiling department. And it probably won’t be the last either. It really has been a story in my life from the get go! But I’m ok with that.

No I am not a miserable person, by any means. I am quite happy and am reminded and grateful for my blessings daily through God’s presence, my family, and more. Some of those moments and giggles are even shared on myย Insta-Storiesย from time to time. But it’s simply because my smiley faces are just not what this blog is about for me. It’s really so much deeper. It’s a journey. And journeys unfortunately don’t guarantee smiles all the time.

Naturally I am a bit of a serious person. Bubbly? Not so much. So sharing only smiley photos wouldn’t be genuine, real, nor authentic. I seriously am not great at real smiles “on que”. It would be a complete awkward distraction from any point shared here, trust me lol! If a smile was posted here it was naturally captured on camera and in sync with the blog post message. And to be honestย many of my more less than smiley moments here have been my most received and relatable posts for readers. Simply because they were coming from a very in the moment real situation that others connected with based on the subject shared.

While I always aim to provide encouragement and inspiring content. The truth is my smiles will not always translate the purpose behind each and every post to achieve that. Please know that it has always been my mission whether the images shared here are representing a style, a scene, a story, a thought, or a message that it be true to the why behind it. It’s really the only way I know how to be…

Thank you for following along with me in this journey called life. Your support and companionship has been so wonderful. Now that is definitely something to smile about. ๐Ÿ™‚ xo

PS: I’m sorry you got those comments, I naturally have a resting b**** face so I know what it means, sometimes I have to force a smile on my face to take pictures, even if it’s not super authentic. Just like you, it’s not that I’m not happy, I’m just not bubbly ๐Ÿ™‚

You have such a pretty smile but you shouldn’t feel forced to do it if it’s not spontaneous.

I love this. Women need to support women. I get told SO OFTEN that I need to smile more. Itโ€™s sometimes frustrating, sometimes hurtful. I support you however you want to be, with or without a smile. ๐Ÿ’•
