MY TOP 10 MOST PLAYED SONGS IN 2017
Friday, January 5th, 2018
In a moment of reflection on this past year I thought it would be fun to compile a playlist of my top 10 most played songs in 2017. Hop on over to today’s blog post HERE for the nitty gritty details behind my most played songs from last year.
THE ANGEL SONG – JACI VELASQUEZ
Thursday, December 21, 2017
So this one is not a traditional Christmas song and perhaps not even a very well known one. But a Christmas song non the less. It’s all about the reason for the season, the birth of our Lord and Savior. I first heard this song one Christmas during one of the lowest times in my life. And I couldn’t have heard it at a better time. Through this song God reminded me that I wasn’t ruined or worthless and that He loved me no matter what.
I know not every song moves everybody the same way, but this song will always be a special one for me.
Merry Christmas. Jesus loves you. ♥
O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL (FEATURING MARSHALL MCDONALD) – STEVEN SHARP NELSON
Friday, December 8th, 2017
We woke up to a beautiful view of snow this morning!! You can see a picture of our pretty snow HERE. Our mini winter wonderland definitely kicked the holiday spirit in full swing for the kiddos this morning. It was neat to see their joyful faces. During this time of year Christmas music is pretty much on full time in our home. This year my preference so far has been the “Peaceful Holiday Instrumental” pandora station. In browsing this years options, it had me at “Peaceful”! I mean who doesn’t enjoy a little extra peace??
I heard this song the other day and it seemed like the whole world stood still for a moment. It was probably the most beautiful arrangement of this song that I had ever heard! Maybe even the most beautiful song period! When it’s playing I get so captivated and lost in the dance between the Cello and the Piano. If possible listen with headphones, volume up, and eyes closed…
P.S. This song among many of my other various holiday favorites are complied in a nice little playlist package for your listening ears HERE.
HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER) – JOHN LENNON
Friday, December 1st, 2017
I grew up in a Beatles fan household. And while Paul was everybody else’s favorite in my family, John happened to be mine. In fact if asked out of the musicians that are no longer here which would I like to meet and visit, John Lennon would be on that list. I have always been drawn to his depth as well as his mind for peace and unity.
With today kicking off the most celebrated month this is the song that comes to mind for me. While it’s definitely a joyful and magical time of year, it can also be a very stressful and chaotic time. We work ourselves to the ground trying to keep our favorite traditions and such alive that we can easily end up distracted from what matters most around us – People
I pray that we are present in our surroundings. That we may observe, listen, and react with love, kindness, and support for those around us and in need. xo
What musician would you like to meet and chat with if you could? Comment at the bottom of the page.
*P.S. I also included Sarah McLachlan’s version of John’s song. Her vocals move me…
**AND I created a playlist of some of my all time favorite Christmas songs that you can find HERE.
LOVE, REIGN O-ER ME – PEARL JAM
Friday, November 10, 2017
Soooo much goodness going on in this one. Hear the song as you need to…
I SAW GOD TODAY – GEORGE STRAIGHT
Monday, November 6, 2017
A shuffle play during my run this morning. …”His fingerprints are everywhere I just slowed down to stop and stare, opened up my eyes and man I swear – I saw God today.” That was the perfect goodie to start my Monday morning.
…however since my music library is so diverse shuffle quickly switched my gears with this one. 😮 Might need to work on organizing my playlists. lol It’s going to be a good day. 🙂
WILD THING – TONE-LOC
LADY – KENNY ROGERS
Wednesday, November 1, 2017
I’m not gonna lie, my heart sunk a little bit when I learned that Kenny Rogers decided to call it quits and performed his final performance this past week. While it makes perfect since…he IS 79 years old! It just kind of slapped me with a bit of reality that what has always been in our lives will not always be.
When I think of Kenny Rogers my mom is the first person that comes to mind. His voice, music style, genre all take my thoughts to her. My mom and I have listened to Kenny many times together over the years. I’m feeling some QT with my mama is in order in the near future. Love you Mom. ♥
There are quite a few favorites when it comes to Kenny, but I love this one that he sings by Lionel Richie. Not all live versions are the greatest, but Kenny nails this one! His smooth AND raspy tone (is that even possible?!), sultry waves of vibrato, and pitch perfect delivery is music to my ears.
EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD – TEARS OF FEARS
Friday, October 27th 2017
Ok so you know how songs can often take you back to a specific moment? This is one of those songs for me. This song was ALWAYS playing on the radio during our family road trips, ALWAYS! And to share a little deeper… anyone remember or heard of the show “The Waltons”? (um…yes I am old-er! ;P) Well for whatever weird reason I thought the character John Boy (Richard Earl Thomas) from the show was the guy that was singing it. And since John Boy was my favorite character I LOVED this song. lol I know…so weird!
SO every time I hear this song by Tears of Fears I think of my childhood road trips and one of my childhood shows. 😉 Regardless this song is definitely an oldie but goodie.
EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD – LORDE
Now let’s talk about this amazing rendition of that beloved song by Tears and Fears. For me this version is a perfect example of a BRILLIANT remake. Lorde took this song and made it her own on a whole new level. My daughter loves this version. I think she is intrigued by her mysterious and spooky delivery.
And on that note, since this is the weekend before Halloween a little mysterious and spooky only seems appropriate for today’s entry.
Which version is your favorite? P.S. Don’t forget Stranger Things Season 2 kicks off of tonight!! Eeek!!
STRANGER THINGS SEASON 2 FINAL TRAILER MUSIC – NETFLIX
Friday, October 20th 2017
In honor of my oldest son Dominic’s 13th birthday today and his love for movie themed instrumentals as well as the tv series Stranger Things I thought I would add this one for today’s entry. All three of my kids love music in one way or another, but Dominic definitely connects to it on another level. He reminds me of my self when I was a kid with music. He will sit in his room with his iPad and repeatedly study a song with his headphones on for hours. I love that we share that bond together.
Fun fact: When I was pregnant with him we often had our music listening sessions together with headphones wrapped across my belly so that he could have full surround sound too. 🙂 You can read more on our story on how I embraced Special Needs HERE.
This track is actually pretty cool. Any Stranger Things fans? Season 2 – October 27th!! Can’t Wait!
SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS – THE CHAINSMOKERS AND COLDPLAY
Friday, October 13th, 2017
It has been a crazy week ! Thankfully some important to-do’s were crossed off my list and now I’m ready to enjoy my Friday with the family. On a music note, I recently downloaded this song on my Itunes and it just seems to hit the spot as I close out my week. Happy Friday!!
A LITTLE TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDARY – TOM PETTY (1950-2017)
Friday, October 6th, 2017
Tom Petty’s music is definitely a regular in my house so we were deeply saddened by the news of his passing. It only seems right to have a little special place on the blog to highlight some of my favorites. Now the list could go on and on because I have several Tom Petty favorites, but I will stick to these 5 for now. 🙂
MARY JANE’S LAST DANCE
So ok – this one has kicked off our families Friday night jam sessions MANY times at 5:00 pm sharp! It’s like my pandora Tom Petty station just always felt this one set the TGIF mood just right. I have to agree! Plus I’m from Indiana so it’s just meant to be. 😉 Warning: It’s impossible to sit still on this one! There definitely has got to be some hippy blood running through my veins!
I’M LEARNING TO FLY
His writing style often shares a sense of vulnerability that we all can relate to. But he tends to wrap it all up (no pun intended – I promise lol) in a pretty little uplifting package that leaves us feeling it’s going to be ok and to not lose hope. There is definitely positive twists and outlook throughout his music.
YOU DON’T KNOW HOW IT FEELS
The title alone speaks volumes to me. I have always felt it’s so important in life to refrain from judging, labeling, and concluding your diagnosis of ones being. Because we don’t know…
I love the gentle presence expressed in this one. I read that Tom Petty just took a deep breathe and this song just came out in three and a half minutes max. Amazing!
Now we are all familiar with this classic. So I thought I would share John Mayor’s version. Sometimes hearing a great cover of a great song allows us to hear the lyrics in a new light. Yes John covers it in “John Mayor style”, but as you hear him singing the song he somehow brilliantly takes you right back to the incomparable Tom Petty in an almost tribute form.
R.I.P Tom Petty (1950-2017)
What is your favorite Tom Petty song? I would love to know in the comments at the bottom of this page.
NOTHING ELSE MATTERS (San Fransico Symphony Orchestra) – METALLICA
Monday, September 25, 2017
While my music library has always been heavily diverse, lately I have been kind of stuck in a rut listening to the same songs. Especially during our family’s traditional Friday Jam sessions. So this past weekend we decided to change things up a little and listen to other styles of music we have grown to love over the years. This time around we chose Rock and Alternative Rock from the early 90’s. My husband and I are high school sweethearts so it was really fun to revisit memories we shared from music back in the day. It was definitely a good move to spin the music wheel. I can’t wait to see what we decide to fill our air waves with next.
When I was in my twenties I would listen to this particular version of Metallica’s song on repeat over and over and over during my treadmill workouts. It’s not necessarily the traditional workout music, but I would get so lost in it (especially the instrumental solo at the end) that I would forget that I could hardly breathe from the workout lol. The orchestra provided a path for a beautiful arrangement of vocal harmonies that only fueled to what was already an emotional song to begin with. It’s a brilliant merging of the original sound and a classical orchestra carefully nurturing each other as James Hetfield’s deep vocals rode the ride. Good stuff!
SAIL AWAY – DAVID GRAY
Thursday, September 14, 2017
I feel like I don’t listen to David Gray near as much as I should. Because every time I hear his stuff I am instantly captivated and reminded how amazing he is as a singer/songwriter.
WORSHIP MEDLEY: OCEANS // YOU MAKE ME BRAVE – CALEB AND KELSEY GRIMM
September 7, 2017
Beautiful song of God’s love for us and that He is always with us even in the midst of our storms. xo
ED SHEERAN CONCERT – HOUSTON TOYOTA CENTER (August 19, 2017)
August 23, 2017
I recently went to an Ed Sheeran concert and let me just say my fan rank has now stepped it up a couple gazillion notches. Prior to the show I knew and liked a few of his songs, but didn’t really know too much other than the fact that Taylor Swift said he is the bomb. Well we all know Taylor Swift knows all, soooo I figured why not see what he’s got.
Um YES, he IS the bomb!! lol He was absolutely AMAZING! The fact that he created and filled an arena full of amazing music all on his own, with only his voice, his guitars, and some kind of machine he randomly stepped on to layer his various sounds/beats right there live — was MIND BLOWING. Not too mention resourceful! lol Pretty brilliant! Here are two songs that he performed that night that spoke to me the most.
I had never heard this song prior to the show, but the minute I heard it I was completely hooked without really hearing any lyrics. Towards the end of the song it turned into an instrumental jam and I felt like I jumped into his guitar and got lost in the sounds being played. It’s the only way I can describe it…. Unfortunately the version below doesn’t capture his amazing live version with the guitar jam, but still good.
I SEE FIRE
The first time I ever heard this song was by artist Jasmine Thompson (an amazing Engish singer by the way). I didn’t realize she wasn’t the original singer until I had heard Ed’s version one day on Pandora. Which needless to say stopped me in my tracks when I heard it. At the show, while singing this he played a video in the background with a big dragon with fire and all. I thought it was pretty cool and set the scene nicely. 🙂 Later after the concert I learned that the dragon scene and this song is from the movie “The Hobbit”. Apparently I live under a rock because until recently this was just a good song by Jasmine Thompson that I liked and had on iTunes. Who knew??!? 😉 This remixed version below of Ed’s song has a nice tropical vibe. Kinda diggin’ it.
BADDEST BLUES – BETH HART
Tuesday, August 15, 2017
Always been a sucker for the blues…
HELLO – LIONEL RICHIE
Friday, August 4, 2017
Hands down my favorite LR song. Can’t wait to hear him sing this one tonight!!
WITHOUT YOU – MARIAH CAREY
Friday, August 4, 2017
Growing up this girls voice was EVERYTHING to me. My poor family had to hear her songs on repeat blaring from my room for years. I listened and studied every which way she used that power house voice in a song. I was even a proud member of her fanclub back in the day (don’t judge) 😉 Bummer I didn’t keep all that memorabilia. Anyway – this one isn’t her song, but her rendention of this cover is one of my favorites. When she belts out that high note 3/4 into the song…..chills everytime. Tonight will be my first time to hear that amazing voice live. Crossing my fingers she doesn’t lip sync. lol ;/
THE OTHER SIDE – DAVID GRAY
Monday, July 17, 2017
Current vibes for this low key overcast Monday. This is one of my favorite David Gray songs. I’ve always felt in a way his voice sounded like a male version of Stevie Nicks….velvety.
ALL AROUND ME (ACOUSTIC) – FLYLEAF
Sunday, July 9, 2017
Although the album version is still probably my favorite, stripping away everything but the guitar and Lacey Sturm’s vocals bring all focus to the most important elements of this song….the words and her delivery of them.
STRANGLEHOLD – TED NUGENT
Friday Jam, July 7, 2017
I might have to watch “Dazed and Confused” soon…
THE SOUND OF SILENCE – SIMON AND GARFUNKEL: PAUL SIMON LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY
Thursday, July 6, 2015
A classic. I can’t help but close my eyes and just take it all in…
OVER THE LOVE – FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
Wednesday, July 5, 2017
Her vocals in this one takes me soaring for days…
