Less Might Be More: Holiday Traditions

December 20, 2017

christmas dress, plaid, read and black plaid, christmas plaid, vintage fur coat, vintage, faux fur, full length fur coat, black booties, studded bag

It’s hard to believe we are less than a week away from Christmas! I’m not really sure I ever walk into the holidays feeling “prepared”. The intensions are always there. I just haven’t figured out how to make it all happen yet.

I read an article not too long ago that was titled “Our 75 Holiday Traditions”! At first I was like “Oh my, 75??!!?”. But as I started to read them almost every one listed was pretty common and more than likely on most people’s traditions list. It got me thinking, no wonder we have such a hard time keeping up this time of year? We are running around like crazy maniacs trying to keep all 75 of those traditions alive in roughly a month! PLUS new ones always get thrown into the mix! So who knows what our holiday tradition total will be in 10 years?

I have had to step back and evaluate my list of holiday traditions. Decide which ones make sense this year, remove some that we no longer find joy in and so on. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally that homebody that is all about tradition. But I am also getting a little overwhelmed with all the expectations we place on ourselves in life. There is no requirement that we HAVE to accomplish every tradition we hold dear to us each and every year. Or is there?

I AM thankful our family tradition of driving around town looking at Christmas lights went well the other day. I was worried that we were going to have to take a brake from that one for while. The three years prior were a nightmare! #parenthood :/ We made progress guys!! [high five]

What are some fun traditions you can’t live without? Any that you decided to cut ties with?Β

So about this dress…

black bag with gold chain, red plaid dresses, red hair inspo, black booties, kemah boardwalk

I just might be slightly obsessed with this little plaid number! It’s a tad more girly girl than I’m used to wearing, but I’m glad I opted to give the babydoll style a whirl. The plaid is just fun and festive and the ruffled sleeves finish it off ever so flattering. And with it’s very affordable price point (currently on sale for $24) this one is a win win for both the upcoming Christmas and Valentines holidays.

red and black plaid dresses, black booties with heel, sleeves with ruffles, Christmas dress ideas

babydoll dress with ruffles, holiday dress ideas, velvet black bag

And for the grand finale, my $10 thrifted vintage full length faux fur coat! Isn’t she a beauty? So proud of that find. I can’t wait to take her out on the town! πŸ™‚

Merry Christmas! May you and yours have the most blessed holiday.

Thank you Cathy. πŸ™‚ I am in love with it too. It doesn’t really get too cold here in Houston, but I throw it on every now and then in my air conditioned home if I need to. lol πŸ˜‰

My hubs and I have been evaluating our Christmas traditions too, especially with a little one in the house now. Honestly the biggest one for us is cinnamon rolls Christmas morning and going to see as many Christmas lights as possible leading up to Christmas. All the others kind of ebb and flow for us.

    • Reply Annette December 20, 2017 at 11:09 am

Yes!! Those are top ones in our household too. My kids especially look forward to the cinnamon rolls. πŸ™‚ Thank you for reading. Happy holidays. xo

Love this post! Yes, I agree, trying to do all the million things around Christmas, can be exhausting! As I’m getting older, and wiser….(heehee) I’m finding that it’s just better to enjoy the season with less stuff!

Thank you Charity. It really can be so exhausting. Not sure how society has gotten this way, but I kind of miss the old days. You know before adulting and being responsible for everything. lol Happy holidays friend. xo

Great point. No there is not a requirement we have to meet them all. 😊

Love the whole ensemble. Is that THE fur coat? I don’t think I ever saw a full length photo. It’s awesome!!

Lol I got to thinking as I was typing the post, well if we don’t do them they might not be traditions! πŸ˜‰ And yes, that is THE fur coat!! It makes me so happy! lol Thanks for reading. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas. xo

Christmas Eve is a full one for us with family visits etc, so we can only make it to church if the timing is right that year. Thank you for reading Anna. Happy Holidays. xo

I could not agree that less definitely is more! I always try and feel 100% prepared but it never really happens and I think that’s ok – it’s part of it all! Those looks are so pretty too – love the plaid!

Some traditions can be very hard to let go of, as you grow older you find you just don’t need to do that tradition. Love the Babydoll Style Dress used to be a favorite of mine back in the Day. Love the Holidays!

    • Reply Annette December 21, 2017 at 1:07 pm

Thank you! I don’t think I have ever owned a babydoll styled dress, but I will consider them more. Speaking of traditions. Looking forward to our Christmas Bake tomorrow. πŸ™‚ xo

Beautiful dress and boots! Every year, I say I am going to take some items off the list, but it does to grow each year!I make Christmas cookies and treats and deliver to all the neighbors and was going to skip this year, but then my daughter came home with a paragraph she had written about her favorite tradition and it was making treats and delivering them to the neighbors πŸ™‚

    • Reply Annette December 21, 2017 at 1:11 pm

Thank you Marie. Oh wow yeah that would be hard to take that one off the list when it’s her favorite. lol I do feel that some traditions we have with our kids we feel they don’t enjoy, but I have a feeling deep down inside they grow to love them because it is a family tradition and they will then continue it with their family. Thank you for reading. Merry Christmas. xo
