3 Reasons Why I’m Still Cool with the Off the Shoulder Trend

January 19, 2017

I don’t know about you, but I feel we have been seeing the “Off the Shoulder” trend for what seems like forever now.  Here we are 2ish years later since the trend resurfaced and shoulders are still going strong! In the winter months and all! Whether it’s off both shoulders, draped off one shoulder, or shoulder cut-outs…it’s been shoulder, shoulder, shoulder!

Here are 3 reasons why I’m still cool with the Off-the-Shoulder trend:

  1. It adds Interest – The silhouette simply changes things up a bit from the standard shoulder design. To me, style is all about changing things up anyway.
  2. It adds Femininity – There is just something about a woman’s shoulders that represents beauty in one of the most feminine ways. At times I like to balance the feminine affect by styling off the shoulder pieces with something a little more edgy. But that’s me.
  3. It adds Strength – Our shoulders contribute to carrying A LOT of “stuff”! Whether it’s a diaper bag, child, groceries, or just the everyday stresses of life – this body part carries it all. Why wouldn’t we give shoulders center stage every now and then? They definitely deserve it!

For me a garment that encompasses interest, feminine beauty, and strength all in one reflects a pretty powerful statement!

What about you guys? Are you still thriving in the off the shoulder band wagon? How do you like to style yours? I would love to hear about it in the comments below.  I hope you all have a blessed rest of your week.

♥ Annette

I am not ready for it to go away yet. I love that you add strength, because that is one reason that I still really like it. You carry everything on your shoulders and they are beautiful for doing so.

Loved reading your thoughts on this trend. Such a pretty dress on you!! I haven’t jumped on this trend because it started when I was pregnant with my son, and then after lots of picking up baby. I was worried about a wardrobe oops moment. I’m going to try this hopefully this summer.

    • Reply Annette January 21, 2017 at 4:50 pm

I totally get that…ots can cause “oops” moments whether you have a baby or not! Ha! Thanks so much for reading, Angela! 🙂

Can we talk about your shoes for a second?? So good! And yes, I’m into the OTS look, too, but never really feel like I have anywhere to go that I could rock that look 🙁

    • Reply Annette January 24, 2017 at 12:45 pm

Thank you! 🙂 I get where your coming from. I changed it up a little bit last summer by wearing it under some denim overalls. It just helped provide that casual vibe. Thanks for reading!
